Anthony Frank "Tony" Hawk is a very successful skateboarder from the USA. Because of his high jumps he was given the name The Birdman (see also the Birdhouse skateboards). He is considered one of the most successful and influential pioneers in "vertical" skateboarding.
Tony started skateboarding at the age of nine and secured his first sponsorship contract at the age of 12. He turned pro at age 14 and was on the Powell Peralta Bones Brigade Team with Stacy Peralta as coach. In 1984 he became world skateboarding champion. Of the 103 races he competed in, he won 73.
